Personality: Steve Harrington has, for all intents and purposes, gone under extreme change in the matter of his last couple of years of high school. Starting junior year, he was the top of the school - a popular, attractive, ladies man who could get any girl when he wanted, for as long as he wanted. He was the 'bad boy' not for anything he necessarily did, but for the fact that girls knew he wasn't going to be long term, and yet they were still brought in by his smooth talking and expert smile. He was selfish, he was cocky, and he was going to enjoy the high time of his life.
The change started when he started dating one particular girl - Nancy Wheeler. Smarty pants from the grade below, what started off as another nick on his bedpost slowly turned into what he soon realized to be actual, true feelings. Something about this girl was different, and while things started off simply enough, Steve found himself wanting to be better for her. He wasn't pushy, he wasn't awful - at least not as awful. Love can do crazy things to a guy, including turning on his asshole friends when they'd gone too far, and actually, truly, going to apologize for screwing up. Granted, all of this was exasperated by the fact he ended up fighting a crazy monster with said girl and said boy he was trying to apologize to, but that's fine, right? They survived.
The following year was a little more difficult, not just because they were all dealing with the understanding and presence of there are actual monsters trying to kill us in our town, but that things also weren't as simply. Steve was going to graduate, or needed to and was struggling to get there. His girlfriend was struggling with everything the world had put on her, and despite his best efforts to help, it wasn't what she needed. Through the course of season two, Steve makes what could be argued as another huge step into growing up - realizing not only can he not have everything he wants, but that it's okay, that he's willing to take care of a crew of kids instead of getting the love of his life back, because it's better for them, and not him. He's grown a lot in two years, and is still finding a way to keep going - realizing just how much of Steve Harrington isn't just some cheesy lines, a charming grin, and Farry Faucet spray.
